Goodwill gets $10M

Wow.

MacKenzie Scott, ex-wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, has been making headlines in the last month with whopping donations to nonprofits around the country.

The latest goes to an Upstate organization. As the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle reports, Scott has given $10 million to Goodwill of the Finger Lakes. She also has donated $20 million over several years to United Way of Greater Rochester.

Goodwill CEO Jennifer Lake issued a press release noting that Scott’s gift was the largest in the organization’s history.

“Because of Ms. Scott’s generosity and belief in Goodwill of the Finger Lakes, we have an opportunity to truly innovate, invest and support our community on a broader level,” Lake said.

“With this extraordinary philanthropic gift, we will be able to fuel our community-based programs and social enterprise, provide job opportunities, and continue to grow our footprint and impact in our region. Most importantly, we will remain true to our mission: To prepare and empower people with barriers to independence to be self-sufficient and contribute to their families and communities.”
