Counties get 9-1-1 funding
The state has awarded $10 million to counties across New York to improve emergency communications. The funds will help localities make improvements to 9-1-1 response and emergency service dispatch operations.
Among the technological improvements will be the ability for citizens to text 9-1-1, said Patrick A. Murphy, commissioner of the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services.
Upstate counties receiving the largest amounts are:
- Albany $236,969
- Lewis $227,334
- Essex $226,858
- Monroe $221,878
- Chemung $220,865
