Whitehall Skene Manor Preservation, one of the larger local nonprofits, preserves the sandstone home of the late state Supreme Court Judge Joseph H. Potter. For a time, the structure was a bar-restaurant, attracting customers with a made-up tale that Katharine Skene, wife of the town’s founder, was buried in the basement.
