The community’s largest nonprofit organization, the United Talmudical Academy of Kiryas Joel and its affiliates, is at the center of a long-running dispute between Hasidic Jews and non-Hasidic residents of Monroe. The schism was the subject of a 2018 documentary film, “City of Joel.”
