Ulster County > Kingston
Kingston was awarded $10 million through the state’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative program in 2018. A quarter of the funds went toward renovation of Dietz Memorial Stadium, used daily for Kingston City School athletics and home to Kingston Stockade Football Club.
O Positive Festival, based here, espouses a creative use of the barter economy. Underinsured artists and musicians create and perform in exchange for services donated by doctors, dentists and complementary care providers. The organization calls this swap “the art of medicine for the medicine of art.”
The Kingston Midtown Arts District, which offers classes and workshops and sponsors annual arts events, has attracted from the federal and state governments, as well as private foundations.
