Counties get 9-1-1 funding

The state has awarded $10 million to counties across New York to improve emergency communications. The funds will help localities make improvements to 9-1-1 response and emergency service dispatch operations.

Among the technological improvements will be the ability for citizens to text 9-1-1, said Patrick A. Murphy, commissioner of the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services.

Upstate counties receiving the largest amounts are:

  • Albany $236,969
  • Lewis $227,334
  • Essex $226,858
  • Monroe $221,878
  • Chemung $220,865
